40-City Tour Focused on Providing Small and Medium-sized Businesses with Strategies to Increase Business Profits through Technology

January 17, 2008 Ottawa, Canada – The Utility Company, a single-source provider of technology, communications and business management solutions for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) across North America, today announced the kick-off of its Utility 360 Technology Bootcamp for Business Executives across 40 cities in North America in 2008.

The key theme for Utility 360 is to educate small and medium-sized business executives on “How to Actually Improve Business Profits through Technology”.  The 2-hour ‘bootcamp’ is designed to be both educational and interactive and will include an end-user panel of executives that have leveraged technology to reduce costs, streamline business processes and/or drive revenue.

“The primary goal of our Utility 360 Bootcamp is to provide business executives with a roadmap on how they can better leverage technology to reduce costs and increase revenue,” stated Mark Scott, president and founder of The Utility Company.  “Many end-users are somewhat disillusioned with technology and, as a result, only utilize a small fraction of functionality and fail to leverage its power to operate, communicate and manage their business in an integrated, cost-effective manner.”

Utility 360 Agenda

In just two hours The Utility Company will cover:

  • Meet & Greet Session - Includes lunch (or breakfast - depending on event time).
  • Keynote Address - Improving Your Business Profits through Technology.
  • Utility Meter Reading workshop - Insight into your technology spending and its utilization vs. industry trends.
  • SMB Technology Pie - Education on the 5 major technologies you invest in and how to utilize them better.
  • End-user panel - testimonials from other businesses who've adopted the utility model.
  • 10 Steps to the Connected Office.
  • Question & Answer - Includes prize giveaways.

“The Utility Company is more then a technology partner.  They are actually a trusted business advisor for small business,” commented end-user panelist Steve Hale, President of Documents Majemta of Ottawa.  “They just recently helped us win a $400,000 proposal – one we couldn’t even have bid on if we hadn’t signed on to Connected Office.  They truly are an integral part of our business now.”

“The MSP Alliance has always been a big advocate for end-user awareness of the emerging technology models like managed services and utility computing,” stated Charles Weaver, president of the MSP Alliance.  “We are pleased to see The Utility Company educating end-users on the potential that technology can provide them when delivered professionally from a more holistic, business-centric approach.”

Utility 360 kicks off in Ottawa on February 8th at The Utility Company’s new headquarters and training facility at One Hines Road, Kanata.

“Executives will leave Utility 360 armed with knowledge ranging from ‘how to manage your entire business from a single executive dashboard’ to understanding new monthly fixed fee Technology-as-a-Service models for hardware, software and service to learning about the latest in web, data and voice communications,” concluded Scott. “As this unfolds, our plan is to verticalize the bootcamps, as well, having more targeted Utility 360’s for accountants, lawyers, healthcare, financial services, etc.”
